6 Tips & Tricks to Make The Best Amigurumi

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small doll. I have read about amigurumi since I was a little girl. However, I just started this interesting art 2 years ago. It took me just a little time to learn how to crochet the basic stitch, but it took so much time to know about all the tip and tricks to make a beautiful doll. So today I decided to share with you the important tips to make the best amigurumi.

1. Use the right hook

Many newbies have problem with the loose and gap stitiches. You can avoid this problem by using the small hook size. So always remember to choose the hook sizes that are smaller than the size recommended on the yarn label. My favorite hook is 2 mm of crochet hook. This size is perfect for amigurumi. In addition, you should crochet with tight stitches. By practice, you will find the perfect tension you need.

2. Use the single Crochet Cross Stitch (X Stitch)

There are 2 ways to make single crochet, but I recommend you use the X stich. This is such a simple stitch which offers a beautiful look. I always use this stitch when I make amigurumi doll. You can learn how to do this stich in this video below.

3. Use Blush powder

After finishing the doll, I often make up for them by blush powder. It’s the small step but very useful. It will give a stunning look for your doll. My favorite color is pink and orange. I simply use my pink powder for my doll. I love the texture and the color they give. The acrylic color’s a good choice too because it’s waterproof. So you can wash your doll without worry.

4. Color changing

You should finish the last step of the last single crochet with the new yarn. The invisible color change method is very useful too. It will help you to crochet a perfect stripe.

5. Use neck support

You want to make a beautiful princess doll for your little girl, but you wonder how to stabilize the big head of the doll. The simple solution is using the neck support. I put a glue stick inside the body and the head of the doll. It will avoid the head flop over.
