It’s very important to know what is suit best for you because it will save your time. So today, I decided to give you some ideas about the tools and material to make amigurumi.

YARN

There are many kinds of yarn for amigurumi but my favor is cotton yarn. It can hold the shape of amigurumi doll. I usually use yarn art jeans, scheepjes catona for my dolls. They’re perfect and so beautiful. You can order it in Etsy with the price about 3-4$. These yarn’s very soft and colorful. I love working with them. In case you can’t buy these yarns, there are still many option for you such as: Phildar cotton, rainbow coton from hobbii.

CROCHET HOOK

You can choose the size of hook depend on your yarn. There is a note in the wrapping that shown the size of hook you need. Normally I use finger cotton yarn, so I choose 2mm crochet hook. I found out that this size gives me a neat doll. My favor brand is prym. With the right crochet, your work will be easier.

STUFFING

The fiber fill need to soft, light and safe. It’s very important to make sure the stuffing won’t come out easily or pose any king of risk to the children in case it does come out. At the beginning, I didn’t realize that the fiber fill can affect to the shape of the toy. By the time, I found out that the right fiber fill will help us make a beautiful and safe toy.

YARN NEEDLE

Talking about needle, I love the large, plastic needles because it never hurts me. Unfortunately, this needle only works with the larger yarn, such as Bernat Blanket. With the amigurumi, I use the small, long and metal needles. The bent-tip needles are useful for weaving in ends in tight spaces too.

SAFETY EYES

First of all the plastic safety eyes are not recommended for children under 3. But don’t worry, you can embroider the eyes for doll. It’s still beautiful and safer.

With the safety eyes, I use 7mm for small dolls and 10mm for big dolls.

STICK MAKER

This little thing will help you to save time. As you know, many patterns work with continuous spiral, meaning that you do not join each round together, this stich maker will help you know the beginning and the end of the row. It’s very helpful so don’t miss it. Just be careful to put it in the box. Most of time, I lost so much time to find my stich maker because I put them everywhere.
